Jon Stewart inspires Phun with Photoshop

In case you’re living under a rock and/or reading this at some point in the future where this story has rightfully disappeared into obscurity, last Monday some knucklehead had a great idea for a photo stunt over what, 8.5 years later, is now a very tidy hole in the ground in lower Manhattan that involved a low flying 747 and fighter jet. Without, you know, bothering to tell anyone or anything.

Okay, a week later it’s safe to laugh about it, with a respectful nod to folks downtown who got the crap scared out of them for no good reason. Which is almost a week longer than the protectorate of good taste known as the NY Daily News waited to sponsor a Photoshop contest. Throwing back to the Tourist Guy photomeme of 2001, the trendsters at the News charged their readers with creating their own Air Force One flyover photos. Without, I might add, crediting Mr. Stewart. Anyhoo, here’s the best of their submissions:

No offense to Times readers, but you bitches couldn’t Photochop your way out of a basement apartment with milk crate furniture. I mean, honestly; what’s this PTA bulletin-quality malarky. At least the radicals over at Free Republic put some shoulder into it, whose assets I link to here purely on the basis of their aesthetic prowess:

Honestly? I like my photomemes to inspire at least as much attention to wit and detail as your middle-of-the-mark LOLcat or FAIL Blog entry. But what can I say; I’m just another armchair art critic.
